SUNDOWN by Maja Ganszyniec collection is a tribute to traditional materials and methods of construction material production. This is also an opportunity to go beyond our interiors and look at buildings and their style comprehensively and highly creatively. The collection is rooted in tradition – by means of colours, formats and surface types. However, SUNDOWN clinker is modern thanks to its technology which guarantees robustness. This enables to restore clinker to architectural and interior designs.

Clinker, as a universal material, comes back in a totally new version. Similar as in the project of resuming production of tiny tiles with a characteristic cut from the Modernizm collection, we created a material with technical and visual properties allowing to renovate old, historical buildings, and also to create new ones.
We enriched that traditional aura with the cutting-edge manufacturing solutions. Thanks to them, clinker is no longer an absorbable building material. Now, it is strong and highly resistant, thanks to which it can boldly enter not only our interiors, but also decorate building façades, build terraces, garden structures or fireplace cladding.

Modernity rooted in tradition

The collection is rooted in tradition – by means of colours, formats and surface types. However, SUNDOWN clinker is modern thanks to its technology which guarantees robustness. This enables to restore clinker to architectural and interior designs.

Five tile formats are available to make all those designs: a long brick (24.5x6.6 cm), sill (24.5x13.5 cm), squares (30x30 and 33x33 cm) and a stair tread with drip (30x33 cm). Tile colours are inspired by the original, organic appearance of clay, i.e. the material being the inspiration and foundation of the collection. All the shades go with the natural tones perfectly. Although clear and strong, they emphasize the beauty of the designs and their surroundings. The diverse tile surface enables to create interesting play of light and to make selected areas and interspersing them with unique textures. Besides a natural, smooth matt surface, you can choose subtle matt structure, a delicate and smooth shiny one and a bold, deep and shiny structure.

Colours

Terra

or a tribute to traditional red clay. The natural material colour is ageless as it has always accompanied humans. Its universal nature, expressed by an unchanged raw material colour, should be emphasized and exposed. We draw from nature which finds the best solutions.

Marrone

is a unique, characteristic sour cherry colour known from Modernistic tenement houses. Thanks to its popular use on façades, this dark, deep sour cherry colour entered the Modernism palette, thus becoming ageless. Its extraordinary hue added elegance to entrance and to representative areas.

Sand

inspired by light clay colour, refers to historical buildings dating back to 1930s and 1940s. In certain regions, it was a highly popular colour of yellow façade bricks. This smart yellow hue looks great in interiors as well thanks to its space-lighting properties.

Tundra

refers to dark green so popular today. This modern colour is inspired by green which became used more extensively for ceramic wall cladding in 1960s. The products those days had deep structures and different textures, making intense, strong visual decorations. Green with a deep structure and shine is a tribute to the mosaics of the past.

Cotto

is a raw brick colour, light and warm. Traditionally found on the façades of historic buildings, it is now used on the façades of contemporary residential and commercial developments.

Maja Ganszyniec

Maja Ganszyniec is an experienced designer with a comprehensive approach to the product development process. Born in Silesia, she studied interior architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and then graduated in design studies at the Royal College of Art in London in 2008. In 2013, she founded Studio Ganszyniec, focusing on human-oriented and nature-friendly objects. Her practice combines design that is both visionary and responsible – always looking for new possibilities within the limits of strategic thinking. In 2017, the Polish Institute of Industrial Design awarded her the title of Designer of the Year. Together with the Ceramika Paradyż design team, she developed two tile collections, Modernizm and Neve Creative, which have won awards including: Perła Ceramiki [The Pearl of Ceramics], Bronze A' Design Award, must have!, Dobry Wzór [Good Design].

Layout suggestions

This harmonious colour and surface choice enables to create simple, subtle, slightly ascetic surfaces, but also to design bold, unique projects using contrasting compositions of surfaces and textures. This key can be used to create beautiful façades, natural interiors, gates, halls, shop windows, patios, terraces in residential and hotel buildings, interior designs of hotels, SPA centres, restaurants and cafés, fireplaces and even gardens.

Weather resistant

Clinker products are resistant to adverse weather. They have low absorption (0.5–3%) which places them among frost-resistant tiles. Their appearance is not affected by moisture, sunshine or high temperature fluctuations.

Improved durability

Clinker is a hard material with high wear resistance which is not easy to scratch or damage. This is highly important in particular for terrace tiles where the risk of scratching or damage is much higher than in any other areas.

Non-slip properties

Thanks to their high non-slip properties, the clinker tiles protect from slipping and falling. These parameters make them great for outdoor stairs as well.

Easy to keep clean

High usable parameters make clinker tiles easy to keep clean which is why they retain their visual appeal even many years later. Cleaning does not require any time-consuming activities and cleaning agents are sold by any store offering household chemicals.
