The garage – the pride of the master of the house (sometimes also the lady of the house) and a favourite place of conversation with the familiar enthusiasts of motorisation:)

The garage is both a technical and supporting place. It protects our car against the effects of the unfavourable weather conditions. It saves our time, which we do not have to sacrifice for clearing the snow and scraping the ice from the windscreen. It also provides thermal comfort both in the summer and winter – we do not have to endure the stifling heat before the air-conditioning does its work or freeze until the engine warms up. The garage often has the additional auxiliary functions – for example, it becomes a mini-workshop, a  store for sports equipment, tools or tires for a change.

A robust floor is the basis of order in the garage.

The garage must be functional. One of the aspects of this functionality is the floor laid in it: durable, safe, and easy to keep clean. Among ceramic claddings, we can find a lot of proposals which meet these requirements.

First of all: hardness and abrasion resistance

The load on the garage floor is incomparably greater than on any other space in our house. The garage floor must withstand years of intensive exploitation – lift (in the literal sense) the weight of the car and systematic, dynamic pressure. Similarly, it must withstand the daily friction of tires with the flecks of sand and other hard particles.

Such intensive exploitation requires selecting the tiles with the highest abrasion resistance parameters, marked with the PEI symbol (the higher the class and the higher the number of rotations, the better – for example 4/6000 or 5/1200).

Tiles from the Flash collection have excellent abrasion resistance parameters – PEI 5/12000. Thanks to that our floor in the garage will please the eye for a long time.

In the case of the unglazed technical stoneware, homogeneous throughout its mass, the PEI parameter is not given because the surface abrasion phenomenon is imperceptible due to the uniform structure of the tile.

Technical stoneware is the most commonly chosen cladding for the garage.

A durable floor with clinker tiles is also a great choice for the garage – especially since it can smoothly connect with the driveway and the rest of the space around the house.

Nothing stands in the way to put clinker tiles in a fashionable, hexagonal shape in the garage.

Not only the quality and durability of the ceramic tiles matter – their correct assembly is equally important. Only the perfect levelling of the ground, the installation of tiles in accordance with the art of construction, and the adequate use of the appropriate construction chemicals will ensure no defects and peace for many years.

Secondly: anti-slip parameter

Our car on the treads of the tires will regularly bring water, mud, clay, and snow into the interior of the garage. All these substances can be dangerous if the floor is not rough enough to eliminate the risk of slipping and falling.

Therefore, when choosing the tiles for the garage, we have to pay special attention to the anti-slip parameter of the tiles, marked with the R symbol. The higher the number at the “R”, the greater the anti-slip safety.

Large tiles from the Duroteq collection have a very high anti-slip parameter – R11.

Unglazed stoneware tiles, type salt-pepper, MONTANA cliff 30×30 cm, also have an anti-slip R11 parameter.

Thirdly: the ease of keeping clean

Dirt, dust, mud, and sand accumulate in the garage in a natural way. Neglecting this space, we also expose our living spaces to unnecessary soiling by moving undesirable particles to the house on the soles of our shoes.

That is why it pays off to regularly clean the garage floor – both with a dry and wet method, and with the chemicals intended for ceramic surfaces.

No grains of soil and sand can be seen on the technical stoneware tiles, type salt-pepper.

Fourthly: remember the aesthetics

Aesthetic issues in the garage usually go down in the background, but they are not without significance. Because as we visit this place every day, we should indeed like it J

However, if we love whites and other luminous colours, let’s keep common sense and honesty towards each other before we buy bright tiles for the garage. Are we ready to provide almost daily cleaning of the garage floor? And if not, will we be able to accept visible traces of dirt?

If the answer to these questions is not affirmative, let’s find the tiles that we will like and at the same time will hide the slight traces of ordinary, everyday impurities.

Even in the garage it can be beautiful! On such an impressive, large-format floor, our car will present itself proudly.

Owing to the beautiful tiles with a large, interesting format, our garage can be not only safe, but also elegant.

In modern arrangements with fashionable greys, the dark, unglazed technical stoneware, type salt-pepper, will work perfectly well

TO SUM UP:

  1. A garage, contrary to the appearances, is an important space from a functional and aesthetic point of view.
  2. Choose the durable, wear-resistant tiles for the garage floor – e.g. from a collection of technical stoneware, clinker or glazed tiles with the high PEI parameters (e.g. 4/6000 or 5/12000).
  3. In addition to the abrasion resistance (PEI), the slip resistance marked with the R symbol must be taken into consideration. In the garage, the tiles with a coefficient greater than or equal to R10 will work best.
  4. Tiles in the garage due to extreme loads, must be assembled professionally, maintaining the utmost care.
  5. It pays off to choose for the garage the tiles which are easy to keep clean. What will work best are the not so bright mélanges and the salt-pepper tiles, on which the first signs of dirt are not glaring.
  6. It is worth arranging a garage space so that we would like it, and so as to make it functional and cohesive stylistically with the rest of the space in and around the house.
